Sumo Showdown: Arkansas Welcomes the World’s Heaviest Wrestlers


Hot Springs, Arkansas is gearing up to host the state’s first sanctioned sumo wrestling tournament at the Bank OZK Arena. The event, taking place at the Hot Springs Convention Center, will feature some of the world’s heaviest and widest sumo wrestlers competing for the Cherry Blossom Cup. This tournament is part of Hot Springs’ sister city relationship with Hanamaki, Japan, and serves as a prelude to the annual Cherry Blossom Festival celebrating Japanese culture.

Six professional sumo wrestlers, including Hiroki and Fauci, will be vying for the championship title. Hiroki, known as the world’s heaviest sumo wrestler at 570 pounds, has appeared in popular films and TV shows such as “John Wick 4” and Netflix’s “Sanctuary.” Fauci, recognized as the world’s widest sumo wrestler, is eager to showcase his strength and skill at the tournament.

Mongolian sumo wrestler Sai Han, the current U.S. Sumo Open champion, is also set to compete, adding an international flair to the event. With sumo wrestling gaining popularity in the U.S., the tournament promises to be an exciting showcase of Japanese culture and tradition.

Doors for the event open at 6:30 p.m., with matches scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase, offering attendees the chance to witness a thrilling display of athleticism and skill from some of the world’s top sumo wrestlers in a unique and cultural setting.
