The Arkansas Tech University robotics club was recently honored with congratulatory resolutions from the Arkansas House of Representatives and the Arkansas Senate in ceremonies at the State Capitol. Members of the club, led by president Hunter Mathis, have put in over 10,000 hours of work to build and program competitive robots, resulting in earning tournament champion and innovate awards at the 2025 Texas VEX U Tournament. Only the University of Texas and Texas A&M University also received multiple awards at the event.
The ATU robotics club has now qualified for the 2025 VEX U World Championship in Dallas, Texas, after previously reaching the elimination round at the VEX U Robotics World Championship last year. The current team is made up of talented students from various locations in Arkansas, such as Greenwood, Conway, Hope, and Bentonville.
Sponsored by instructor Jacob Weidenfeller and co-sponsored by Steve Ward, the club welcomes students from all majors to participate. During their visit to the State Capitol, representatives Breanne Davis, Matt Duffield, Julie Mayberry, Mindy McAlindon, Nick Burkes, and James Eaton spent time with the students, showing their support for the club’s accomplishments.
The ATU robotics club’s success reflects the dedication and hard work of its members, showcasing the university’s commitment to fostering innovation and excellence in STEM education. Their achievements at the Texas VEX U Tournament have positioned them as leaders in the field, setting the stage for a successful competition at the upcoming World Championship.
