First woman West Point graduate completes Army Ranger competition

First Lieutenant Gabrielle White, a West Point graduate, made history by becoming the first female service member to complete the Best Ranger Competition, a grueling annual event that tests physical and cognitive strength. White was the only woman out of 103 competitors and placed 14th overall with her partner, Captain Seth Deltenre. This achievement is significant as it challenges the notion of women’s capabilities in combat roles, especially during times when the role of women in the military has been under scrutiny. White, who is also the first African American woman to compete in the competition, had previously graduated from Ranger school in 2022, after it was opened to female soldiers in 2015. Despite her historic participation, the Army has not acknowledged her accomplishment publicly. White is currently an infantry officer in the Army and has been recognized with several medals and badges for her service. Her success highlights the progress made in breaking gender barriers in the military and represents a milestone for female soldiers.
