Razorbacks Shut Out Top-Ranked Texas in Impressive 9-0 Victory
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – In a stunning display of dominance, the No. 11 Arkansas Razorbacks defeated top-ranked Texas 9-0 in the series opener at Baum-Walker Stadium on Thursday night. Led by Zach Root’s career-high 11 strikeouts, Arkansas combined for a two-hit shutout, cementing their reputation as a formidable home team.
With this victory, the Razorbacks improved to 38-9 overall, including a stellar 28-3 record at home this season. This win also marks Arkansas’ eighth consecutive season achieving at least 28 home victories, showcasing their consistent excellence at Baum-Walker Stadium.
Root set the tone early, striking out the side in the first inning and retiring the first six batters he faced. His eight innings of pitching not only limited Texas to just two hits but also displayed his ability to navigate through tough innings efficiently.
The Razorback offense wasted no time, starting with Carson Boles’ two-run homer in the second inning, giving Arkansas a 2-0 lead. Cam Kozeal later contributed with a three-run blast, expanding the lead to 5-0. Arkansas continued to dominate, scoring four runs in the fourth, including a two-run double by Wehiwa Aloy and an RBI single by Kuhio Aloy.
Kozeal’s impressive performance now boasts a .362 average with 11 homers and 52 RBIs, while Aloy leads the team with a .369 batting average.
Right-hander Will McEntire finished the game with a scoreless ninth inning, securing the Razorbacks’ commanding shutout against the Longhorns.
