New Guides Designed to Enhance Maternal Health Awareness and Support for Families in Arkansas

New Digital Guides Boost Maternal Health Awareness in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — In honor of Women’s Health Month, Arkansans for Improving Maternal Health (AIM) has launched two crucial digital guides aimed at supporting new and expecting mothers across the state. The "Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies Guide" and the "Guide for New, Expecting Moms" are designed to enhance awareness and facilitate informed healthcare decisions for families preparing for childbirth.

Ashley Bearden Campbell, Executive Director of AIM, emphasized the importance of these resources: “These tools are part of our ongoing commitment to equip mothers and families with the knowledge they need to thrive. From navigating new policy updates to effectively communicating during health appointments, we want Arkansas mothers to feel empowered at every step.”

The Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies Guide outlines key components of the groundbreaking Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies Act, which aims to elevate maternal and infant health in Arkansas. Highlights include immediate Medicaid access through presumptive eligibility for quicker prenatal care, coverage for up to 14 prenatal and postpartum visits, and expanded services like Medicaid support for doulas and community health workers. The guide also connects families with local support organizations, ensuring comprehensive care.

The Guide for New, Expecting Moms focuses on empowering women to communicate effectively with their healthcare providers. It offers practical tips for discussing common pregnancy concerns, including mental health awareness and the proper channels for raising critical issues. Practical scripts help mothers address questions about conditions and ensure their voices are heard throughout their prenatal care journey.

Both guides are available for free, serving as invaluable resources for Arkansas families as they navigate the complexities of pregnancy and maternity care. “Every mom deserves to be heard and supported,” said Bearden Campbell, reinforcing the guides’ mission to ensure that essential concerns do not go overlooked.
