Reggie Swinton, Ex-NFL Player, Assumes Leadership of Arkansas High School Football Program

Reggie Swinton Named Head Coach of Jacksonville High School Football Program

Jacksonville, AR – Reggie Swinton, a former NFL wide receiver and return specialist, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Jacksonville High School football team, taking over from Eric Allen, who led the team to a disappointing 2-8 record last season in Class 5A Central.

Swinton’s coaching journey began as a wide receivers and special teams coach at Arkansas Baptist College, followed by a role at Pulaski Heights Middle School before leading the Forrest City Mustangs. In his only season at Forrest City, he improved the team’s record from consecutive 1-9 finishes to a more respectable 4-7, with a commendable 4-3 record in conference play.

An accomplished athlete, Swinton excelled at Central High School in Little Rock, earning All-State honors in multiple sports including football, basketball, track and field, and baseball. He continued his football career at Murray State, where he became an All-Ohio Valley Conference member and set school records in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.

Although Swinton went undrafted in 1998, he found success with the Dallas Cowboys three years later. He made a notable impact during his first season with the Cowboys, setting franchise records for kickoff return yards and returns. Over four seasons, he also played for the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions, and Arizona Cardinals, retiring with impressive career totals, including 1,311 punt return yards and 4,919 kick return yards.

Beyond his NFL career, Swinton also played in the Canadian Football League and XFL, representing teams such as the Toronto Argonauts and the Las Vegas Outlaws. As Swinton steps into his new role, the Jacksonville High School community eagerly anticipates the revitalization of the football program under his leadership.
