Riverside Triumphs Over Hackett: Live Updates and Score from the Arkansas Class 2A State Softball Championship

Riverside Captures Class 2A Softball Title with a Stellar Performance

CONWAY, ARKANSAS – In a thrilling pitching showdown at the Arkansas Activities Association Class 2A state championship, Riverside’s Annalee Qualls delivered a game-defining moment with a solo home run, leading the Lady Rebels to a 1-0 victory over Hackett. The title match, held at the University of Central Arkansas, showcased the skill and determination of both teams.

Qualls’ decisive hit came in the sixth inning, breaking a scoreless tie and providing Riverside, now champions for the second time in three years, a crucial lead. Senior pitcher Klaire Womack, who was named the game’s MVP, reinforced that lead by throwing a remarkable shutout, striking out 12 batters while allowing only three hits.

“It’s just unforgettable,” Womack said post-game. “Playing with these girls since we were little makes this moment so special.” Womack, who has committed to play at Arkansas Tech, effectively utilized her rise and curveballs to dominate Hackett’s lineup, securing the win after maintaining her composure under pressure.

Hackett’s senior pitcher, Makenzie Freeman, put up a commendable fight, striking out 10 and leading until Qualls’ home run broke through her defense in the sixth. "Both pitchers were brilliant; I knew it would be a tough battle," said Womack of Freeman’s performance.

The game marked redemption for Qualls after a heartbreaking loss to Mansfield in last season’s championship, where she felt unjustly called out at first base in the final moments. “It feels great to come back and win,” Qualls remarked.

With this victory, Riverside solidifies itself as a formidable contender in Arkansas softball, a team fueled by both talent and a history of resilience.
