Central Arkansas Bears Shine in ASUN Outdoor Track and Field Awards
CONWAY, Ark. – With the NCAA Regionals on the horizon, the ASUN Conference has announced its postseason awards for outdoor track and field, highlighting the achievements of the Central Arkansas Bears for the spring of 2025. The day began with the unveiling of the Academic All-ASUN teams, where the Bears secured three prestigious spots among a competitive array of athletes.
On the men’s side, distance runner Pete Johnson and thrower Malik Beasley made their mark on the academic team. Johnson, who boasts an impressive 4.0 GPA in his post-baccalaureate studies in physical therapy, has demonstrated excellence both on the track and in his academics. He clinched second place in the 3000m steeplechase at the ASUN Outdoor Championship, finishing just under nine minutes, and placed sixth in the 5K. Meanwhile, Beasley, pursuing a master’s in education with a GPA of 3.83, showcased his athletic prowess by winning the outdoor hammer throw with a remarkable distance of 62.56 meters and securing second in the shot put.
Representing the women’s side, Kylie Coleman was also recognized, exemplifying the balance of academic and athletic achievement with her 4.0 GPA in exercise science. Coleman achieved a commendable third place in the pole vault at the ASUN Championships, clearing 3.48 meters and contributing significantly to the women’s team victory in the outdoor championship.
Head coach Josey Weaver expressed pride in the trio, stating, "It’s no surprise that these three individuals earned All-ASUN academic awards. They represent exactly what we want our program to be about, which is succeeding not just on the track but in the classroom. These individuals are poised for success in the real world."
The Bears continue to exemplify excellence, proving that dedication in academics and athletics can go hand in hand.
