Arkansas State Parks to Host Annual Free Fishing Weekend

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — Get ready to cast your lines! Arkansas State Parks is set to host its annual Arkansas Free Fishing Weekend from noon on June 6 until the evening of June 8, attracting fishing aficionados and outdoor lovers alike. With 12 rivers and 29 lakes available for exploration, Arkansas’s pristine waters and well-maintained habitats make it a premier fishing destination.

This beloved event, established through a proclamation by Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, allows both residents and visitors to fish without needing a fishing license or a trout stamp, although daily limits and fishing regulations will still be enforced. The license exemption kicks in at noon on June 6 and will resume at midnight on June 9.

“Shea Lewis, secretary of the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism, stated, ‘Arkansas Free Fishing Weekend is a fantastic opportunity for families, friends, and nature enthusiasts to reconnect with the great outdoors and experience the thrill of fishing in The Natural State.’”

Highlights during this weekend include popular spots like Lake Greeson at Daisy State Park, known for its clear waters and diverse fish species, including stripers and black bass. Lake Chicot State Park, the largest natural lake in Arkansas, and Bull Shoals-White River State Park, renowned for its world-class trout fishing, will also be main attractions. Additionally, Lake Charles State Park is noted for its impressive catches of 20-inch bass.

Fishing enthusiasts are encouraged to explore beginner fishing videos available online and can obtain fishing licenses through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s mobile app. For more information on the Free Fishing Weekend and other fishing opportunities throughout the state, visit the Arkansas State Parks website.
