Chris Pezman Named New Athletic Director at Arkansas State University
JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – Arkansas State University has selected Chris Pezman as its new athletic director, as reported by ESPN and AStateNation. Pezman, who previously held the same position at the University of Houston from 2017 until 2024, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record to the role.
During his tenure at Houston, Pezman was instrumental in the Cougars transitioning from the American Athletic Conference to the Big 12. He spearheaded the development of a state-of-the-art $130 million football operations center, set to open this summer. His strategic vision also led to the successful recruitment of notable figures, including David Rehr, who has since achieved significant success as the head coach of Houston’s volleyball team, overseeing 115 wins and two NCAA Tournament appearances.
Prior to his leadership role at Houston, Pezman served as the senior associate athletic director at the University of California, Berkeley, from 2013 to 2017. His time at Cal was marked by significant improvements in facilities for various sports programs, including men’s basketball and field hockey.
A former student-athlete, Pezman played football at the University of Houston, where he served as team captain in 1992. His commitment to athletic excellence and player development aligns with Arkansas State’s mission to enhance its sports programs and provide student-athletes with top-tier resources.
As he steps into this new role at Arkansas State, Pezman is expected to leverage his extensive experience to elevate the university’s athletic programs and foster a culture of success.
