Arkansas Razorbacks Ranked 22nd in ESPN Football Power Index

In the latest ESPN Football Power Index (FPI) rankings, the Arkansas Razorbacks have earned a spot in the Top 25, coming in at No. 22 nationally with an FPI of 10.8. Despite this recognition, the Razorbacks find themselves ranked 12th in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), where Texas claims the top spot, followed by Georgia and Alabama.

The FPI, developed to predict team performance throughout the season, suggests Arkansas has a 63.5% chance to secure at least six wins and achieve bowl eligibility. However, the razorbacks face steep competition, with only a 0.5% chance of winning the SEC title, while their likelihood of making a College Football Playoff appearance sits at 8.2%, and a mere 0.3% chance of clinching the National Championship.

After concluding the previous season with a 6-6 record, Arkansas gained momentum by defeating Texas Tech 39-26 in the Liberty Bowl, finishing the season at 7-6. Looking ahead, the Razorbacks will retain both offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino and defensive coordinator Travis Williams. Under Petrino’s guidance, the team boasted a respectable sixth in the SEC for scoring, averaging 30.92 points per game. In contrast, Williams faced challenges, as Arkansas ranked second-to-last in scoring defense, allowing an average of 25 points per game.

Next season promises to be a daunting challenge, with tough road games lined up against Texas, Tennessee, and Ole Miss, as well as a home matchup against National Championship runner-up Notre Dame. Arkansas is slated to begin fall camp in early August, with their season opener against Alabama A&M on August 30 at 3:15 p.m. CT, airing on the SEC Network.
