Hardy Police Chief Charged with Child Sexual Abuse

Hardy Police Chief Arrested on Child Sexual Abuse Charges

Hardy, AR — In a significant development for the small community of Hardy, Police Chief Scott Rose was arrested on Monday following a two-month investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse. According to a press release from the Arkansas State Police, the 47-year-old has been charged with multiple offenses, including second-degree sexual assault, sexual indecency with a child, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, and knowingly furnishing alcohol to a minor. Collectively, these charges could result in a prison sentence of up to 32 years and fines totaling $37,500.

The investigation commenced on March 31 when the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office received an initial tip about Rose. While early allegations appeared to be speculative, further interviews with the alleged victim and her family unveiled more serious claims of sexual misconduct. Due to the sensitive nature of the case and Rose’s role in law enforcement, the sheriff’s office sought assistance from the Arkansas State Police and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Later, the FBI became involved, helping ensure a thorough investigation.

On June 2, Rose was interviewed at the FBI field office in Jonesboro, leading to his arrest shortly thereafter. He was booked at the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office before being transferred to Independence County Jail for safety and protocol reasons.

Sheriff Shane Russell commended the collaborative efforts of state and federal agencies, highlighting their professionalism and commitment to handling the case with the seriousness it warranted.

Hardy, with a population of approximately 770, is no stranger to controversy; this marks the second arrest of a public official in the area in two years. In September 2023, Mayor Ethan Barnes was also arrested for misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released further details at this time.
