On this day in 1812, the U.S. Congress took a historic step by renaming the Louisiana Territory to the Missouri Territory. At that time, the vast region included present-day Arkansas, setting the stage for its future development.
Tragically, June 4 also commemorates the murder of former State Senator Linda Collins in 2019. Collins was discovered dead outside her home, a case that shocked the state and drew widespread media attention. Her close friend and political aide, Rebecca Lynn O’Donnell, was later convicted of the crime and received a 50-year prison sentence. Notably, June 4 is also the birth date of Frank D. White (1933–2003), the 41st Governor of Arkansas, who served from 1981 to 1983. Born in Texarkana, White made significant contributions to the state before his passing in Little Rock in 2003.
