Fayetteville’s Girls Gone BBQ to Close by the End of the Month

Girls Gone BBQ Announces Closure Amid Challenges

Fayetteville’s beloved barbecue spot, Girls Gone BBQ, run by pitmistress Dana Neely, will be closing its doors later this month. The restaurant, which Neely founded in Seattle in 2008 before returning to her Arkansas roots to open the Delta-style eatery in 2022, has gained attention for its unique offerings, including a selection for vegans and those suffering from alpha-gal syndrome—a red meat allergy that Neely herself developed in 2023.

Neely’s journey took a challenging turn when she experienced a severe allergic reaction after consuming steak, leading her to adapt her business operations extensively. To accommodate her allergy and ensure safety for her patrons, she implemented separate prep areas and utilized three distinct smokers—one each for pork and beef, poultry, and vegan items.

The restaurant had garnered praise, including a positive review from Arkansas food author Kat Robinson, who highlighted the vibrant flavors in dishes like the two-meat pink plate, featuring brisket, pulled chicken, vegan baked beans, collard greens, and cornbread.

However, despite its community-driven concept, Neely announced on Facebook that the decision to close is primarily due to high rent and inconsistent support from the local community. The last day of operation for Girls Gone BBQ will be June 14.

Neely’s dedication to inclusive dining and her innovative approach have made a significant impact in Fayetteville, leaving a lasting impression on its culinary scene as the restaurant prepares to bid farewell.
