Arkansas Arts scene buzzing with events this week

The Arkansas Arts Council is set to honor acclaimed potter Stephen Driver as the 2025 Arkansas Living Treasure at a reception on Wednesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Boswell Mourot Fine Art in Little Rock. The evening will feature an art talk, a video presentation, and a showcase of Driver’s works. Admission is free, but registration is required via tinyurl.com/msyj48y2.

On the same evening, Maumelle photographer Michael Grice will explore his father Geleve Grice’s photographic legacy in “Pine Bluff Through the Lens,” taking place from 6-7 p.m. at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts. This event is part of the museum’s exhibition “Kwame Brathwaite: The 1970s” and aligns with the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center’s Juneteenth celebrations, with free admission.

Art lovers can also visit the “Great NLR Art Tour,” a self-guided experience introduced by the North Little Rock Public Library System and North Little Rock Tourism. Available until July 31, the tour features ten outdoor art installations and three galleries. Participants can collect prizes by completing a map available at library locations or the North Little Rock Welcome Center.

Finally, on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History will screen “The Strange History of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’” as part of its monthly Movies at MacArthur series, with complimentary admission and refreshments.

For those looking to enjoy live entertainment, the CHARTS Live season kicks off September 5, featuring D.A. Pennebaker’s documentary “Don’t Look Back.” The season features a mix of performances, including musicals and documentaries, enhancing the vibrant cultural landscape of Arkansas.
