Little Rock Central’s Aaron Butler Named All-Arkansas Preps Coach of the Year
Aaron Butler, head wrestling coach at Little Rock Central High School, continues to solidify his legacy in Arkansas wrestling as he recently earned the prestigious title of All-Arkansas Preps Coach of the Year for all sports. This accolade comes on the heels of multiple honors, including Arkansas girls wrestling coach of the year from the Arkansas Wrestling Association, the National Wrestling Coaches Association, and the Democrat-Gazette.
Under Butler’s guidance, the Little Rock Central girls’ wrestling team made history by clinching the school’s first-ever wrestling title and finishing the year ranked 48th in the nation, the only Arkansas team on the list. Notably, senior Laila Jordan capped off an undefeated season, winning the 105-pound title and earning the Arkansas Female Wrestler of the Year award. Alongside her, two other girls captured individual titles, while an additional six secured second or third place finishes.
The boys’ team also had a remarkable year, finishing third overall in Class 6A—its best performance since 2010. With two boys winning state titles and several others receiving all-state honors, Butler’s coaching prowess is evident.
Butler’s roots run deep at Central; a former wrestler himself, he was part of the school’s inaugural team, and both he and assistant coach Adam Cline were state champions. His strong ties to the school—along with his family legacy—reinforce his commitment to the program.
"I’m good. I love it here," Butler remarked, downplaying potential college offers with an unwavering focus on developing Central into a wrestling hub in Arkansas. With his relentless drive, it’s clear that Aaron Butler has only just begun to make his mark on the sport.
