Join us for a Star Party at Lake Sylvia next Saturday

Lake Sylvia Recreation Area in Arkansas is set to host a star party organized by the Central Arkansas Astronomical Society on March 22. The event promises telescopic views of dim, deep-sky objects and constellation tours. An indoor presentation will be followed by observing the winter Milky Way on the south side of the lake. Participants are advised to dress warmly and avoid clothing that lights up or flashes to preserve their night vision. The event will be postponed if weather conditions are unfavorable, with a backup date set for March 29.

Located in the Ouachita National Forest, Lake Sylvia is a dark sky location with minimal light pollution, making it an ideal spot for stargazing. Despite being less well-known, the park offers a unique opportunity to view the night sky away from city lights. Participants are encouraged to attend the event to experience the beauty of the winter Milky Way with the guidance of experienced stargazers.

The event is open to the public and provides a rare chance to observe celestial objects in a clear and unpolluted sky. The Central Arkansas Astronomical Society aims to educate individuals about the wonders of the universe and promote interest in astronomy. Attendees can expect an informative and engaging experience at the star party, learning about the night sky and observing its wonders with the help of telescopes and expert guidance.
